When you create an account on Crankin, we collect your email address, username, and any profile information you choose to provide such as your bio, location, and profile picture.
Crankin also stores photos you upload, including profile pictures, post images, and photos you attach to catches. If you enable notifications, we store a push notification token for your device so we can deliver alerts.
When you start a trip, Crankin collects your precise location to record your route, map where you log catches, and calculate trip statistics such as distance and duration. Location collection continues in the background while a trip is active, so tracking keeps working when your screen is locked or the app is not in the foreground. Location is only collected while a trip is running — starting and ending a trip is always your choice.
Your recorded routes and catch locations are stored with your trip. Each trip has its own visibility setting that you control: trips set to private are visible only to you, and trips you choose to share publicly may show your route and catch locations to other Crankin users. You can change a trip's visibility at any time.
You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings. Doing so stops trip tracking, and Crankin will notify you if it loses location access during an active trip.
We use your information to provide and improve the Crankin platform, send you account-related emails, and connect you with other anglers in the community.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Your public profile information such as your username, bio, and posts are visible to other Crankin users.
We share limited information with the service providers listed below so Crankin can work, and with Meta to measure our advertising, as described in the Advertising and Tracking section.
Crankin uses third party services including Supabase for database, authentication, and file storage; Resend for email delivery; Mapbox for maps and map data; RevenueCat for subscription management; Open-Meteo for weather conditions; and Meta for measuring advertising. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from those platforms.
Mapbox receives location data needed to display maps and map features. Open-Meteo receives the coordinates and times of your trips and catches, without any account information, so we can show the weather conditions for them. River flow readings come from the U.S. Geological Survey through our own server; only the IDs of river gauges are sent, not your location. RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription information in order to manage your Crankin Premium access; payment details are handled by Apple or Google and are never received or stored by Crankin.
Crankin uses the Meta (Facebook) SDK to measure how well our ads on Facebook and Instagram work. The SDK sends Meta information about how the app was installed and used, such as app installs, app opens, and subscription purchases, along with basic device information.
On iPhone, your device's advertising identifier is only shared with Meta if you choose "Allow" when Crankin asks for permission to track. You can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. On Android, Meta may receive your device's advertising ID. You can reset or delete it at any time in your device's settings under Google > Ads (or Privacy > Ads, depending on your device).
Meta handles this information under its own privacy policy, available at facebook.com/privacy/policy. Some privacy laws may consider this kind of sharing to be "sharing" or "targeted advertising." You can opt out using the device settings above, or by contacting us.
If you purchase Crankin Premium, we receive confirmation of your subscription status from Apple or Google through RevenueCat, so we can unlock the features included with it. We do not receive or store your payment card details, billing address, or any other payment information.
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and associated data at any time using the steps in the section below.
You can delete your Crankin account at any time from inside the app. Open your profile, tap the menu in the top right, select Settings, then select Delete Account and confirm.
Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, posts, comments, trips, catches, routes, photos, messages, and community memberships. This cannot be undone.
If you are unable to access the app and need your account deleted, email us at crankinapp@gmail.com from the address associated with your account and we will process the request.
Crankin is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
